Couples Therapy

You’ve Tried Everything to Communicate

You’ve had this fight before… many times. Different week, different trigger. Same circular loop.

You’ve said everything there is to say, and nothing has changed.

If anything, things have gotten worse.

You’re Not Short on Love for Each Other. That’s What Makes This So Confusing.

But love is tangled up with self-sacrifice, power, and resentment, and all of that gets in the way of acting on the love you both say you have.

You even secretly wonder: Maybe I married the wrong person?

And the helplessness: nothing gets better unless your partner changes first.

That’s emotional gridlock.

Both of You Feel the Pressure to Change

You know things would get better if your partner would just make a few simple changes, but they resist the suggestions you’ve made.

Some couples worry that their perpetual conflict is impacting their kids.

Others because one partner has run out of runway and issued an ultimatum.

However you got here (one of you pushed, the other followed), you’re in the right place.

What’s Keeping This from Changing

The defenses that cause problems in love are strong. They were built in childhood to help you survive. And they are designed to resist every attempt to change them.

What keeps this locked is the private wish that relief will come when your partner finally gives you what your family of origin couldn’t.

That wish is old and powerful.

And it lives in both of you at the same time, pointed at each other.

I Don’t Privilege Any Technique Over Getting Results

I draw from the best of many approaches to couples therapy. If one path isn’t working, I pivot.

What I teach is self-responsibility: not how to take care of each other, but how to take responsibility for yourselves.

One of the most important things I can offer is helping you feel the difference between the highs and lows of addictive cycles that feel like love, and the deep peace and stability of love built on a strong foundation of trust, commitment, truthfulness, and consistency.

That difference is real. Most couples have never experienced the second one.

I balance empathy with confrontation, and tenderness with strength. Overemphasizing the romantic and emotional isn’t what couples need.

I’m skilled with complex cases and high-conflict situations.

I assess for personality disorders and emotionally abusive dynamics to make sure couples therapy is the right form of treatment for you.

More than any particular certification, couples need a therapist who is experienced, strong, wise, and trustworthy.

The therapist’s person matters as much as, or more than, any technique.

You’ll need to surrender what you think you know, so you can encounter yourselves and each other in new ways.

What Becomes Possible

With treatment, couples find more safety, empowerment, and peace.

Children do better across the board.

Sleep improves. Cortisol lowers.

When you’re not burning bandwidth on arguing, defending, and managing the fallout, you have energy to build, create, and enjoy your life.

Family systems, at their best, support the growth of every person inside them.

That’s what I’m working toward with you.

Time Is the Only Truly Non-Renewable Resource

If you’ve been struggling for longer than six months, your case warrants outside intervention.
